2008 Valley Singers Banquet

SPRING 2008
VALLEY SINGERS BANQUET

The event: The Shades Valley High School Valley Singers annual awards banquet.

The scene: More than 100 guests, including choral students and parents, gathered at the B&A Warehouse in downtown Birmingham for the formal evening hosted by the Shades Valley Choral Boosters.

The evening was emceed by Valley Singers President Katie McDanal and Vice President Tiffany Ballard. A welcome and invocation was followed by a slide show which ran during the delicious dinner prepared by B&A. Entertainment was provided in the form of a game involving Senior students and Senior Awards which were selected by the officers. Décor was a red, black and silver music theme in an elegant reflection of the school’s colors.

Awards were given to Valley Singers President Katie McDanal, Vice President Tiffany Ballard, Secretary Kaitlyn Frawley, and Treasurer Heather Powers.

Women’s and Mixed Ensemble group members were individually recognized. Jossy Kabiru and Mary Ellis were honored as All-State Choir members.

Highest level awards were given to those Seniors achieving membership in the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Those Seniors are Tiffany Ballard, Heather Powers, Kaitlyn Frawley, Bianca Williams, Leah Morrison, Shnay Steele, and Katie McDanal.

Choral Director Heather Cantwell recognized Booster club officers and presented a new annual award, "The Spoon Award" to Aaron Mickle and Spencer Rowell, in recognition of their ability to keep her laughing.

Trophies were presented to Most Outstanding Freshman Jossy Kabiru, Most Outstanding Sophomore Justin Thomas and Mary Ellis, Most Outstanding Junior Aaron Mickel and Erica Boger.

Other awards were given to Senior Leadership Award winner Heather Powers; Most Improved Senior D’Antra Mixon; Outstanding Senior Female Choral Student Bianca Williams; and Outstanding Senior Male Choral Student Vann Bentley.

The Choral Boosters and Mrs. Cantwell’s father Mike Jones, fund the Linda L. Jones Choral Scholarship, given in honor of Mrs. Cantwell’s mother who passed away two years ago. This year’s recipient was Tiffany Ballard, who will be attending the University of Montevallo this fall.
